ABOUT US

Friends with Vision (FWV) is an informal group of friends who shared the same vision of lending a helping hand in the communities within and around our townships/neighbourhoods.

The group came into existence as a result of informal chats via different modes of communications, but mainly emails with most of us having never met nor seen each other before (to some, this still applies).

The Resolution of Friendz With Vision

Upon agreeing on embarking on an initiative to assist/help those less fortunate than us to enjoy and have a marry Christmas for the year 2009 (seeing that the group was formulated during the Christmas Season), we therefore tasked ourselves to give in suggestions of what exactly is to be done and for who.

A suggestion was made to host a Christmas Party of an Old Age Home called Ekuphumleni Home for the Aged & Frail situated in Gugulethu, a township where some of the members of FWV reside in. Ekuphumleni provides accommodation and caring services to suffering and neglected elderly and physically challenged people mainly coming from the local townships and nearby squatter camps.

The idea was to host an event that would leave a lasting impact on the residents of the chosen location and not just a once-off  moment of fun. It was then decided, after engaging with the management of the Home, that we would contribute money and raise funds to buy gifts in the form of nightwear (Pyjamas and Night dresses) for all their residents and deliver the gifts on Christmas day. With the endless efforts of Friends with Vision and support from other community members, our friends and families, the FWV group managed to buy all 130 residents of Ekuphumleni (57 Women and 73 Men) a Christmas gift in the form of nightwear which were delivered on Christmas day (25 December 2009).

FWV is an indefinite number of individuals willing and striving to make a positive impact on the lives of those around them. Even though we have a core number of members who take responsibility in the operations of the group (administration, site visits, liaison, etc.), a Friend with Vision member is anyone that tirelessly lends a helping hand and always looks at ways and means to use what little s/he has at disposal to brighten someone else's day.

Therefore, if you can relate to what is being said in this document and you work day in – day out to help the less fortunate in your surroundings, you are indeed a Friend with Vision.
